Why this exists
I used to play video games. Then I had kids, and somewhere along the way I became someone who buys video games, puts them on a shelf, and tells himself he'll get to them eventually. At some point you accept that this is just collecting now, and your collection deserves better tooling than a Google Sheet.
The real problem turned out to be the data. There's no single source of truth for retro game metadata — naming conventions differ everywhere, regional variants get mixed up, and half the catalog has gaps. Shelfware stitches it all together so that when you scan a barcode, you get the right game, the right variant, and the right price. Across 40+ platforms, from the stuff in your parents' attic to whatever came out last Tuesday.
The recommendation engine is self-hosted and trains per user. Your taste profile never leaves the server and never touches anyone else's data. It learns what you actually collect — not what's trending — and surfaces the games you didn't know you were looking for.
